Introduction
Welcome to the Planetarion R27 User Guide

Planetarion is a space-themed game, which has won numerous awards over its previous rounds, and has players from all over the world.

In Planetarion you control a single planet and its ships in the vast wilderness of the universe. Your planet is in a galaxy, and it is up to you and your fellow players to make your galaxy work together to overcome the various dangers from outside. A galaxy that does not work together is a target. As well as playing together in galaxies, people also join together into alliances, to assist each other in dominating the universe.

So how do I play it?

Planetarion is a "browser based" game. This means that you can play it at any time or from any place where you can connect to the internet. The only item you require is an internet browser. Planetarion is also about skill, dedication and teamwork..yet in the end there can be only one winner.

Planetarion is a real time strategy, in which the action is divided into 'ticks'.
A tick is an event in which the game is updated every hour, on the hour.
These in game updated events occuring each "tick", could be your ships getting closer to their destination, a construction being built or your scientists getting closer to their target research.
In a standard round one tick is a single hour, but special "speedrounds" can be as quick as one a minute. This means that communication and co-ordination are important aspects of the game -and as such many people use a program called IRC to co-ordinate effectively.

Sound good so far?

So what could be better than this?
Planetarion is a game you can play anywhere at any time, on virtually any Internet connection.
It's a game with apprehension, tension and full of emotion.

A free game!!

That's right, its possible to play Planetarion for free.

It is possible to upgrade your account for as little as £3.33 by purchasing credits, which gives you access to more technologies and features. You can upgrade at any time in the round, but the sooner you upgrade the more you benefit from it.
Each 'Credit' bought will last for the remainder of the current round and any un-used credits can be used in ANY future Planetarion rounds, and don't have to be used in our FREE speedgames.

So how do I upgrade for only £3.33??

Planetarion has a number of special offer prices, one of which is 3 credits for only £10, instead of the normal price of 1 credit for £5. It is against the rules to have more than one account, but you can use these "credits" to upgrade your friends or family, or even keep them for your own personal use in future rounds. As rounds last between two and three months, it is possible for you to play for the equivalent of 9 months for £10.

What is the aim of the game then?

The main aim of the game is simple:
To have the highest score at the end. This can be for you as an individual, or for your galaxy, or alliance.

The reason most people play is to have fun with friends. You can't get anywhere in Planetarion without being a team and working together, and most people play for friendship and to compete with their friends.

If I need to have the highest score to win, how do I get score?

Your score is made up of value (literally, assigning a number to the ships, asteroids and constructions you have in your possession) and experience (XP), which is added to when you steal asteroids, scan and covert op people.

Now you've told me all of this, how do I start?

You can signup from the link below. The remainder of this manual, as well as the PA Wiki (especially the New Player Manual and Terminology pages) are useful links.

You can also download IRC for communication - mIRC is a popular client for Windows. The majority of the top alliances and players use it. The IRC Network most people use is the NetGamers network, which can be connected to using the "irc.netgamers.org" or "irc.planetarion.com" address on port 6667 in your IRC client. There is also an inbuilt "comunit" (a copy of which is found here which allows you on IRC, but this does not work behind many office / university firewalls.
A good starting channel to join is #Planetarion, where many other people can be found.

If you're looking for alliances, try looking here, on the Official Planetarion Recruitment forums, where many alliances make themselves known if they want players.

Planetarion also has a Support Team to help with all of those technical issues, such as problems logging into the game.
It is advisable to first check to see if your issue is in the Frequently Asked Questions list, or bigger Online Help pages first, but if your problem is of a different nature you can contact the support team either through the Support Link or by contacting them on the IRC server, at irc.netgamers.org, in #support.
